Monarch butterflies were probably named for King William, Prince of Orange.  The last generation of the summer diapause phase begins in Mexico with the genetically compelling reason for them to make the wintering trip to Santa Cruz and Pacific Grove, California.  It is truly an anticipated spectacular influx of immigration.  Circadian rhythm in action.
